Group, small group or private? Here is how the day trips on file differ in length, inclusions and from-price, what a full day looks like and which suits your group.

Quick look
Almost every day trip to the Ouzoud waterfalls from Marrakech follows the same skeleton: a pickup in the morning, a long drive with a coffee stop, several hours at the falls and a return in the evening. Our own tour lists a pickup from your hotel or riad at about 7:30 to 8:00 AM, about 4 hours at the falls and a return to Marrakech at about 7:00 PM. The other listings on file differ in vehicle, group size, length and what is bundled, not in that basic shape.
That sameness is useful, because it lets you compare like with like. When day trips look alike on the surface, the differences that matter are the length of the day, the time you actually spend at the water, whether a guide and a boat ride are bundled, whether lunch is part of the price and whether the group is shared or private. This page puts those differences in front of you so that the price is not the only signal.
You do not need to book on this page. The calculator below shows live from-prices for several group options, and the table beside it sets out their length, group type and review count. Prices on the booking platform are the exact figures, and a different date or group size can change them. Prices on the booking platform are the exact figures; the numbers here are starting points that move with the date, group size and option you pick.

Lengths, group types and counts are as the records state them; prices are from-prices and move with the date and option.
Several listings we hold say private or small groups are available, and one is a private group by definition. Listing 496340 offers private or small groups, as do 535667 and 329931, while 649208 is a private group with a day of 10 hours. Our own tour is built around options: guided, self-guided and private. That range lets you move from a shared van to a group of your own without changing the destination.
The practical difference is control. In a shared group the schedule is fixed, the coffee break is a set length and the boat queue is a group queue. In a private group you can ask for a different start, a longer lunch or a slower walk down to the pool. The private listing on file carries a much higher from-price, and you should check whether the price is per person or per group before comparing it with the others.
A small group sits between those extremes. It can feel less hurried than a full coach while costing less than a private day. Whichever you choose, read the option name on the booking page rather than the headline of the listing, because one listing can hold several options with different inclusions. The record for our tour says so directly: inclusions vary by option, so review yours before booking.
Review volume
Review counts as the records state them; a larger number means more feedback, not a better day.
The from-prices on file for an Ouzoud waterfalls excursion span a wide range because the listings sell different things. Our tour starts from $17, listing 496340 from $11, listing 56037 from $13, listing 535667 from $14 and listing 329931 from $16. A from-price is the lowest price a listing shows, usually for its simplest option, so it tells you where the range begins rather than what your day will cost.
The private listing is a different kind of number. Listing 649208 starts from $178 for a private group, which is a price for a different product and should not be set next to the shared from-prices as if it were a cheaper or dearer version of the same thing. Compare it with the private option on our own tour if a private day is what you want, and compare the shared listings with each other.
A low from-price is worth a second look at what it leaves out. One listing says lunch is not included and that the guide will point out restaurants, so the real cost of the day is the ticket plus a meal. Our tour includes lunch only in option 3 and the private option. The cheapest headline can end up more expensive than the one that bundles a guide, a boat and a meal, so compare the whole day.

On our tour the guide and the boat ride are included in options 1 and 3 and in the private option, while the self-guided option 2 has no guide or boat ride. Lunch is included in option 3 and the private option only; in the other options it is optional and paid at the restaurant. The record also says dietary needs can be met on request, which is worth a message if you eat vegetarian or avoid gluten.
Other listings bundle differently. One lists lunch, a guided tour, a boat cruise, hiking and swimming at the falls, with some of those marked optional. Another lets guests wander alone or with a guide, walk to the foot of the cascade and ride a boat on the lower pools, with lunch left out of the program. Others list a local guide and a boat trip as upgrades that you add yourself and pay for on top.
The rule of thumb is to look for these things on any day trip: a guide, the boat ride and the meal. If a listing treats any of them as an upgrade, add it in your head before you compare prices. Also ask whether any admission or fee at the site is left out of the listing, and keep some small notes for tips, for the driver, the guide and the boat crew. Knowing in advance what you will pay on the day removes most of the surprises.
A day in order
About 7:30 AM
From your hotel or riad, or a nearby meeting point.
Mid-morning
25 minutes at Ouled Khellouf after the first leg.
Late morning
The second leg of the van ride is 2 hours.
Midday
About 4 hours at the falls cover the stops listed.
Afternoon
The hike is rated moderate, with steps on the way up.
About 7:00 PM
The return follows the same legs in reverse.
Pickup comes first, at about 7:30 to 8:00 AM on our tour, with departure at about 8:00 to 8:15 AM. The van then drives 45 minutes, stops for a coffee break of 25 minutes at Ouled Khellouf and continues for 2 hours to the falls. You arrive in the late morning, which leaves time for the trails, the boat and lunch before the afternoon heat, and the guide can set a pace that suits the slowest walker in the group.
The record lists about 4 hours at the falls, with lunch, a guided tour, a boat cruise and hiking. The order may run from the viewpoint to the walk down, the boat, lunch on a terrace and the climb back up in the afternoon, though a guide may reorder it to avoid queues. Free time is part of the day, and it is a good moment to sit with a tea instead of climbing yet another viewpoint.
The return runs through the same stages in reverse, with a ride of 2 hours, an optional coffee break of 25 minutes at Tamelalt and a final leg of 45 minutes. You are back in Marrakech at about 7:00 PM, tired and probably a little sunburned, with a camera full of red rock and white water. Plan a light evening and an early night, because the day is long even when it goes perfectly, and leave the souk shopping for another morning.

The best time to go is March to May and September to November. Summer is very hot; winter days are mild and evenings cool.
Before you book
Families with children who like to walk will do best on a guided option with the boat included, because the guide handles the pace and the boat gives a rest after the steps. A child who tires easily on stairs should be told in advance how many there are. Couples who want time to themselves may prefer a small-group or private listing, and solo travelers often value a guided option because the group does the logistics. Travelers who dislike big groups should read the group size notes closely and prefer the small-group or private options, even if the from-price is higher.
Anyone with limited mobility should read the exclusions before booking. Listing 535667 flags the trip as unsuitable for people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, people with limited physical ability and people aged 70 and above. Our own record calls the visit a moderate hike and recommends closed-toe walking shoes. If the steps are a worry, ask the operator what can be done at the falls and where the easy viewpoints are, and say so before the day, not at the top of the stairs.
Timing matters as well. The tourism office gives March to May and September to November as the best time to visit the Azilal area, calls summer very hot and says winter days are mild with cool evenings.1 A summer day trip is therefore a hot one, and the best use of it is an early start, plenty of water and a long lunch in the shade. The best time page goes into the water levels and the light.
Read the cancellation terms first. Every listing on file offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and our tour adds reserve now and pay later, which means you can hold a place without paying until you are sure. That flexibility is a real advantage on a trip where weather, health or transport plans can change at the last minute, and it means a booking made weeks ahead does not tie you down.
Check the guide languages. Our tour lists live guides in English, French, Arabic and Spanish, and the other listings give the same or a similar set. If you do not share one of those languages with your group, ask in advance. Look at the pickup details as well: a medina address may be served from a nearby meeting point, so confirm the exact spot the evening before, and save the contact details the operator sends after booking.
Finally, look at the reviews, not just the rating. Our tour has 38,315 reviews rated 4.6, listing 496340 has 14,234 rated 4.8 and listing 56037 has 9,974 rated 4.6. Large numbers are reassuring, but read a handful of recent comments about the guide, the vehicle and the pickup time, because those are the things that vary most from day to day, and a recent comment tells you more than an average built up over years.
