Agadir sits on the coast and Beni Mellal on the other side of the Atlas, and the falls are neither. Here are the road links the tourism office gives, how Azilal fits in and the plan that works from each starting point.

Quick look
Agadir is a seaside city on the Atlantic, and the tourism office counts 300 days of sunshine per year there.4 That makes it a natural base for a beach holiday, but it is a poor starting point for the Ouzoud waterfalls. The tourism office's own list of day trips from Agadir runs to Taghazout, Taroudant, Tiznit and Essaouira, and the longest of them is about 2 hr 30 min.5 The falls are not on that list.
The link to Marrakech alone is long. The tourism office gives 3 h 00 min and 257.9 km between Agadir and Marrakech on its Agadir page.1 Its Marrakech page gives a different pair of figures for the same link, 2 h 37 min and 247 km.6 We show both because the two pages disagree, and either way the trip is hours on the road before the falls even begin.
Add our Ouzoud day, which drives about 3 hours each way from Marrakech, and a same-day round trip from the coast becomes mostly a journey. The sensible plan is to travel to Marrakech first, sleep there and join a day that starts in the city.

The tourism office's Azilal page gives 2 h 40 min for the Marrakech link and its Marrakech page gives 2 h 36 min; both are quoted in the text above.13,11
The national railway connects Marrakech to Oujda and serves the main cities of Morocco, but the tourism office states plainly that it does not serve Agadir.8 That rules out a train for this leg and points to a coach, a shared taxi or a rental car.
Coaches are the usual alternative. The tourism office says coaches can pick travellers up from the train station and reach even the most remote village,9 and it lists the Markoub app as a way to buy coach tickets from a smartphone.10 Buy the ticket ahead in the busy months, and check which station the coach leaves from.
A rental car gives you the most freedom, but it also means a long drive in a country with unfamiliar road habits. If you plan to hire a car, collect it in Agadir, drop it in Marrakech and book the falls day with a driver, which leaves you free to look at the scenery instead of the road.
Treat the journey as three simple steps. Travel to Marrakech from Agadir on one day, spend the evening in the medina or a riad, and join the falls day the next morning. Our day collects guests from their hotel or riad at about 7:30 to 8:00 AM, which suits someone who slept in the city.
Leave time on the Agadir side too. The tourism office suggests allowing 3 days for the Azilal area,7 and a break of that kind is worth building into a holiday that has a beach at one end and a mountain at the other. If your holiday is short, one night in Marrakech and the day trip is a good compromise.
On the day itself the return to Marrakech is at about 7:00 PM, so do not book an evening bus or a flight on the same date. Keep the next morning free as well, because a long day on foot and in a van leaves you tired. A slow breakfast in the city is the right ending to a trip of this kind.

Compare this startBeni Mellal lies on the other side of the Atlas from Marrakech. The tourism office puts the lake of Bin El Ouidane close to Beni Mellal and suggests a swim there,3 and it puts the same lake 27 km north of Azilal.12 The two sentences together tell you that Beni Mellal and Azilal belong to the same northern gateway to the falls.
The pages we read give no distance from Beni Mellal to the Ouzoud waterfalls, so we do not invent one. A route planner will give you the road figure for your day. What the sources do say is that Ouzoud is a day trip of about 40 minutes from Azilal.2
That makes Azilal the pivot of the northern route: reach Azilal from Beni Mellal, then continue to the village at the falls. If you are travelling by public transport, plan the last stretch as a taxi hop, and agree the return before you set off.

The tourism office gives 3 h 00 min and 257.9 km on its Agadir page.1
Evening
Stay in the city so that pickup is easy; the ride starts at about 7:30 to 8:00 AM.
Morning
The drive is about 3 hours each way with a rest stop.
Midday
The itinerary lists about 4 hours at the falls with lunch, a boat cruise and hiking.
Evening
The return is at about 7:00 PM.
Next day
Keep the morning free, or plan a longer stay in the Azilal area.7
Azilal is a town in the centre of the Atlas Mountains, as the tourism office describes it.15 Searches for the falls often add the nearby village of Afourar, and on a map that village lies between Beni Mellal and Azilal, a useful landmark if you are driving yourself to the Ouzoud waterfalls near Afourar and Azilal. It is not a stop on our day, which runs from Marrakech.
The link between Marrakech and Azilal is long: the tourism office gives 2 h 36 min and 162.3 km on its Marrakech page and 2 h 40 min and 161.7 km on its Azilal page.11,13 Again the two pages disagree slightly, and again either figure is far longer than the Ourika run from the city.
The area around Azilal rewards a longer stay. The tourism office names the natural bridge at Imi N'Ifri, the lake of Bin El Widane, the gorges of the Ahansal wadi and the Tamga reserve beside the falls,16 and calls Mount M'Goun Morocco's 2nd highest mountain at 4068 metres.17 None of that fits a day trip, but all of it fits a stay.

Day trips from Agadir: Taghazout (about 30 min), Taroudant (about 1 hr), Tiznit (about 1 hr 15 min) and Essaouira (about 2 hr 30 min).
Plan the journey
An overnight near the falls changes the experience. The tourism office suggests allowing 3 days for the Azilal area,7 so a night nearby is a reasonable plan rather than a hardship. You see the cascade after the day trippers leave and again in the morning light.
Staying overnight means you leave the group tours behind and arrange your own transport. That can be a taxi from a nearby town, a rental car or a coach to Azilal. It is slower than a guided day, but it suits travellers who want time on the paths and time to watch the water.
We sell no hotels, and the day trip from Marrakech is the offer on this site. Use this page to decide whether a longer stay near the falls fits your route, and book your accommodation separately. The listing for our day cancels free up to 24 hours before, which keeps your options open.
From Marrakech, the answer is simple: join the guided day, which handles the drive and the schedule for you. From Agadir, travel to Marrakech first and treat the falls as part of a mountain break rather than a day out from the coast.
From Beni Mellal or Azilal, the falls are close enough that you can plan your own day. Check the road, agree a taxi price in advance and allow time for the steps down to the pool. The day is shorter than the drive from Marrakech, but you will want a meal and some time to look.
Whichever way you come, plan around the season. The tourism office names March to May and September to November as the time to go and calls summer very hot.18 The month you travel matters more than the town you start from.
